This project seemed to be the one that I struggled with the most. A lack of decision making at the start of the project showed me that later on in the project development was harder to explore with deadlines quickly coming along. If i was to do this project again i would definitely pick a camera effect a lot better, discover the pro's and con's of this aspect, so that i am readily prepared for each photo shoot. This is evident in my final collection, because of the lack of judgement and decision making earlier on. The collection i feel is a little disfunctional and have no flow too it. This is because i was learning as i was shooting. Although this is not a bad thing, it is just visibly portrayed in my images.

More Bokeh Research

These are just some of the images that i found and that helped inspire me to create my final collection.

This project has definitely been my hardest due to the switching around of ideas, however i learnt a lot from this technique and have captured a few images within this collection that i would never of been able to before. These are just some images that through out my learning in photography i hope to excel and create even better than these ones i found.

Bokeh and Precedent Two.

"In photography, bokeh (Originally  /ˈboʊkɛ/,^[1]  /ˈboʊkeɪ/ boh-kay — also sometimes heard as  /ˈboʊkə/ boh-kə,^[2] Japanese: [boke]) is the blur,^[3][4] or the aesthetic quality of the blur,^[5][6][7] in out-of-focus areas of an image. Bokeh has been defined as "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light".^[8] However, differences in lens aberrations and aperture shape cause some lens designs to blur the image in a way that is pleasing to the eye, while others produce blurring that is unpleasant or distracting—"good" and "bad" bokeh, respectively.^[3] Bokeh occurs for parts of the scene that lie outside the depth of field. Photographers sometimes deliberately use ashallow focus technique to create images with prominent out-of-focus regions.

This is my idea that is a combination of the previous stencil idea. It involves the same sort of effects and i hope that is will be a more simpler way to explore this photography idea. After contacting richard he also sent me this link to understanding this idea and concept a little better. This you-tube video then became my final precedent.

Second Photo shoot.

This is the very small contact sheet for the second shoot there is hardly any shots as i knew that it wasn't going to work about approx 15 photo's so learnt and developed from the experience and was time to think of ways to improve it. Aim is to do a wee google search for ideas that are similar to this one however don't involve a tricky stencil.

The Big Fail.

I created a stencil to add to the effect of each photo.  Following the instructions from one of my precedents i created my very own star stencil. (the picture below)

However when it came down to taking the photo's the pictures ended up looking like this instead.. I'm unsure as to why this happened, perhaps the aperture was wrong or the stencil was too big for the lense. In conclusion this effect would be fantastic if it worked, however it didn't so now i need to think of a better way to create the same sort of effect.

HDR task

Manual.

We combined 3 photo's and manually merged each other to create this image above. Each one we chose the best aspects to create this overall picture that you wont necessarily get with one shot. I worked on this weekly task again with Daisy Cox.

Auto.

This is the automative version of the weekly task. It looks extremely different compared to the manual one i did. I think I was a little too tame when it came to reaching the pictures full potential.

city lights at night.

An idea that i am thinking about exploring further. It is a combination of the the contrasting darker surroundings and the bright manufactured lights that really capture my interest. I hope to make a stencil in order to create such a shape. Just like the precedant below, that was shown to use during class.

A video that we watched in our tutorial created a new idea for this project. I enjoyed the effects that this activity portrays on each photograph. Instead of waiting for it to rain and capturing light through a waterdrop it is a way to capture a locations light in a different angle.

I think this idea for the project is the one that i hope to develop further. I know it is completely opposite to my initial idea. However i tried to develop this idea further, yet failed as it became quite a mundane idea to inforce upon a single item. Plus i have previously completed a project similar. So time for a challenge!

Research Research Research.

Looking Back.

In my first year of design. I designed an object that i absolutely hated. However when it came down to photographing it, it completely changed the composition and characteristics about the object. It was a fragile plastic form that i had no real relevance to anything. However when photographed it changed into an elegant almost architectural form. This is my inspiration. I hope to find object that have nothing special about it. however with the use of light and composition i hope to change the objects form to something amazing.

Researching.

First shoot.

Objects from my tool box. Captured in a way that hopefully isn't recognisable. The ink pottle was the hardest as it didn't have many aspects to it that i could change or capture differently. Being a circular object creates it to be quite simple and restricting when it comes to its photography.

The Wire cutters were my favorite, because of the bulky and symmetrical presence there were a few different ways of capturing them in an obscure manor. Also playing with the shadow would be another thing that could enhance the confusion when looking at an object. It could create another line to draw the eye to and leave the brain guessing of what the form actually is. More light is necessary for the next shoot. Even other sorts of lights, colours, textures can enhance the objects ability to transform to something different.

Honestly this shoot was done quite quickly and not to my full potential but it got the ball rolling on my idea and now it leaves room for development and critique, to improve my rough idea further.

Weekly tasks.- Light painting.

For this weeks task i worked together with Daisy Cox, A girl from my class in order to gain the best outcome for this task. we both came up with the idea and was a lot easier to capture our idea with two people. She was able to direct me while I drew the image. Her are some of our attempts. It was great fun and we even did a few just for fun!

Proposal

Light project. Initial idea is to capture an object in an unrecognisable way. With the help of light directed the attention and using an up-close aspect to the object can create and architectural aspect. Hopefully i am able to create a small nano object into a larger structure, that will leave the viewer guessing what it is.

Instead of finding a range of random objects that I think will photograph well. Instead i was considering to choose a specific location, such as my desk, kitchen items, or things you'd find in your car. Then capture a range of photographs that are just of the object just seen in a different way to create the everyday mundane object into an object that has structure, architecture and a surprising characteristic about it.

I hope to develop this idea further through the shoots that I take within the next few weeks. This is just a basic proposal that has alot of room for development. I'm just not sure which way that idea will develop into.

Final layout of Time project

My 24 hours time frame for the one location I chose in Wellington. I felt that the composition worked well together and it was a unique bus stop, with plenty of character. I tried to capture the continuous traffic throughout the day and night by starting it at night and then to day back to night. This represents to continuous circle of time throught this location. People may see this area only during the day however with this contrasting timeline it shows the development of the location throughout time, that is naturally shaped by sunlight, sunsets and sunrise.

Reflection.
I am happy with my work however I feel that I could of done it slightly better with the transition between sunset and sunrise and also, capture better images of people waiting at the bus stop, rather than cars driving past or people walking down the street. I think my choice of location could of been slightly better aswell, for example a busier bus stop, that had a reliable morning rush hour of pedestrians and then also the 5 o'clock bus ride home. That emphasised the journey of everyday life throughout time.

This is a characteristic bus stop that is shaped throghout the 24hour time limit however it would be even better if there were more photo's that emphasise the transitions throught the timeline.

Bus stop composition.

Reasearching different ways to capture a bus stop and the people in it without having to write a word. Peoples body postions effectively speak louder than words. Throughout waiting people usually keep their mind active with phones, ipods, books or even just their own thoughts thorughout this project i hope to capture that moment. letting it be an accessory to this time based project and not a proiority. I can't forget that this project is about the time of the day  aswell as the time spent at a bus stop.

Bus stop photography- 3rd May.

So choosing a place is fundemental to this project. The time of day needs reflect its emphasises on the place and express to the viweres the unique characteristics about the location chosen.

After googling bus stop photography i found out that this mundane waiting area that a large ratio of us spend time in can actually be portrayed as uniquely designed environments around the world.

So at 6:30am i set off on a mission to find Wellingtons finest bus stop, that expresses character individuality and unique aura to the capital city. And hopefully i found it. I now need to stalk this area 24/7 (without being creep) to capture the unique characteristics of this stop.

Stumbled upon Precedent 4. - 2nd May.

This website is from a French photographer Richard Vantielcke. He has a sense of conceptual and narrative photography. In particular his collection of Night photography spoke to me the most. His understanding of form and perception is defined fantastically. He has the lights, shadows and human existence all in balance with the commercially structured surrounding.

To relate this piece of research to my photography, i hope to capture the same sort of forms throughout my shoots. The bus stop frames speak strongly to me. The narrate not only what is occurring but also how the person is feeling, while waiting for the bus to take them to their next destination.

Researching. -2nd May

Trying to apply my reflective concept to this time based photography project to create a different dimension to it's juxtaposition and mise-en-scene. Hopefully i would like to create a series of pictures that capture the loaction over a period of time.
If it isn't a 24hour time frame, perhaps it could be a few days that will express the true characteristics of the area through the portrayal of time.
It would hopefully capture the variety of weather, traffic, day and night contrasted, to enlighten a series of pictures that unconsciously show a place throughout time.

I want it to include some sort of reflection, if it isn't water, then perhaps windows, mirrors or even car reflections.

Here are just a few of the ideas i found on the internet that is continuously inspiring my thoughts and inspiration.

Rough first shoot in my final concept idea.

This is my first photo shoot of capturing time out of my bedroom window. I have displayed it in the concept i'm hoping to present my final shoot. However i will select a more specific location as the picture needs more emphasise maybe on one specific location or place so that you can see the diverse change of time over 24 hours. Perhaps a location that is constantly changing during the day and throughout the nightlife environment.
